Jake Winfrey has been promoted to sports editor at The Cullman Times after serving more than four years as a writer, covering high school and college sports.

An Auburn University graduate and native of Douglas, Winfrey has covered football, track, soccer, baseball, basketball and produced features on local athletes throughout his role as a sports reporter. Prior to joining The Times, Winfrey worked for the Opelika-Auburn News.

As sports editor, he will be responsible for the coverage of area sporting events for The Times as well as the newspaper’s digital coverage at cullmantimes.com and on social media sites.

“Jake has shown a strong commitment to covering local sports and recognizing the athletes and schools in our coverage area. He has been an asset to our staff throughout his tenure with our news operation. We are glad he will continue to build coverage and provide leadership as sports editor,” Times Editor David Palmer said.

Winfrey replaces former Times Sports Editor Rob Ketcham who is now the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce communications manager.
