It will take some thick-skinned brave souls to venture out for the annual Polar Bear Plunge Saturday at the Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center — with downright frigid temps expected — but there will plenty of other activities to warm you up.

Cullman Parks and Recreation will host its Third Annual Community Wellness Day and will open the facility to the public for free swimming, exercise, and fitness classes to get you in shape for 2017. Attendees who sign up for a membership will also receive $50 off.

An d those who want a chance to win a free one-year family membership can take the plunge into the outdoor pool. The jump will begin at 11 a.m., but you must show up early to sign a waiver.

All ages are encouraged to attend, and participants will be placed into a drawing to win the free membership. But a word to the wise, the water will be cold. The low overnight Friday will be around 20 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.

There’s even a slight chance of snow before noon Saturday as the Cullman area struggles to get above freezing. Tentatively, the high is only expected to reach 37.

In addition to the other activities, parks and recreation will host a health fair with free information on workout routines, personal training, nutritional supplements and more.
