Two months after a municipal election, the Colony Town Council is at full membership.
Seats had been vacant for months in the Place 2 and Place 3 positions. During the October election there were not enough candidates to fill the openings.
Mayor Donnis Leeth said the existing council agreed Tuesday to appoint Tammy Malcom to Place 2 and Julian Fields to Place 3. Malcom will have responsibility for police and fire while Fields will handle streets and drainage.
“We’re excited to have these appointments and move forward with helping the town,” Leeth said. “Tammy graduated at Wallace State and Julian retired from Nichols & File before it closed down.”
Looking forward, Leeth said he hopes the town’s leaders can make improvements to the park and improve the walking trail that is heavily used by residents.
“We also are trying to get a Dollar General to locate in town. We think we can meet in January to continue to pursue that goal for our citizens,” Leeth said.
The mayor reported that council member Jamelle Dimbo expects the finance committee to have a tentative budge ready for presentation in January. He also said council member Curtis Johnson gave a report on the gym and game room at Colony Educational Complex, saying they should be ready for public use by the Christmas break.
