Cullman County’s Haynes elected State Young Farmers Committee’s vice chairman

The Cullman County Farmers Federation received the Award for Excellence Dec. 5 at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 95th annual meeting in Montgomery. Cullman County Farmers Federation President Steve Lake, left, accepted the award from Federation Executive Director Paul Pinyan.The award recognizes counties excelling in five sections of the Federation: organization, agricultural programs, governmental affairs, and the county’s Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers committees. 

Lee Haynes of Cullman County was elected vice chairman of the State Young Farmers Committee during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 95th annual meeting in Montgomery Sunday.

He was also re-elected to a two-year term on the committee representing District 2, which includes Blount, Cherokee, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Jackson, Marshall and St. Clair counties.

The Cullman County Farmers Federation also received the Award for Excellence Monday with county President Steve Lake accepting the honor. 

Other officers elected for the state committee were Chairman Jerry Allen Newby of Limestone County, who represents District 1, and Secretary Adam Wilson of Calhoun County, who represents District 3. Officers serve a one-year term, and Newby will serve a one-year, ex-officio term on the Federation State Board of Directors.

Others elected to the Young Farmers Committee were Walker County’s Russell Miller in District 4, Autauga County’s Taber Ellis in District 6, Escambia County’s Spencer Williamson in District 8 and Limestone County’s Ben Maples in the North Alabama At-Large seat.

The Young Farmers Division creates opportunities for members to be a voice for agriculture. It also recognizes exceptional young farmers through annual contests, including the Outstanding Young Farm Family, Excellence in Agriculture and Discussion Meet competitions.
