- Former Mortimer Jordan and current Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges looks for room against Mississippi State on Saturday.
Former Mortimer Jordan quarterback Devlin Hodges left his mark on one particular SEC defense over the weekend. Those wearing maroon and white across the state of Mississippi won’t be asking Hodges and his Samford teammates back to Davis Wade Stadium any time soon.
Although Mississippi State did end up beating the Bulldogs, 56-41, Hodges had his way (at times) with Dan Mullen’s secondary. The Blue Devils’ alumnus went for 469 passing yards on a 42-of-69 performance. He finished the day with four touchdown passes to go with three interceptions.

Hodges also showed his worth as a runner, churning up 45 yards on the ground to total 514 yards of offense in the narrow road loss. The sophomore now has 28 passing touchdowns on the season, as Samford visits The Citadel with an overall mark of 6-2.
“Each and every week we play a faceless opponent and we came into this game not worrying about what Mississippi State was going to do,” said Hodges following the game. “Obviously, confidence is going to build from this, but we’ve just got to continue to work every day.”
Hodges, a 2014 graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School, entered this season as a preseason second-team selection to the All-Southern Conference Football Team.
