Police searching for bank robbery suspect

UPDATED: Gardendale Lt. Scott Banks said the suspect was a white male in his 50s or 60s. He had a salt and pepper beard and glasses and was wearing a black pullover and black University of Alabama cap. He fled south on Highway 31 in a white pickup truck. The SouthPoint Bank on Highway 31 in Gardendale was robbed this afternoon by an older gentleman. Police spokesman Lt. Scott Banks said the man entered the bank shortly before 3 p.m. and asked for money. Banks said the robber did not produce a weapon and no one was injured in the incident. Banks said police were still on the scene, obtaining descriptions from bank employees and reviewing surveillance tapes. He said a description would be released as soon as it was available.
