Tabernacle Christian secures home field

It was another shootout at Moncrief Park, as Tabernacle Christian went for an 84-64 win over East Memorial on Friday night. The win means the Torches will host a playoff game in the opening round on Oct. 28.
For the Wildcats, Friday’s loss moves them from first to third in the Christian Football Association final standings. They will come back to face Tabernacle Christian in the first round of the playoffs in three weeks.

On Friday night, it was a relentless Torches’ rushing attack that broke the visitors. Head coach Keith Dabbs orchestrated his offense to 471 yards rushing, led by senior ball carrier Josh Florence.
Florence ran with it 32 times for 365 yards, seven touchdowns and four 2-point conversions in the conference win. Quarterback Micah Miller added another 84 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He also did work with his arm, finishing 5-of-8 passing for 103 yards, two touchdowns and a 2-point conversions.
On the defensive side, it was Cobie Howard that came through for Tabernacle Christian. He got his hands on two second-quarter interceptions to help the hosts turn a 22-18 deficit into a 48-28 halftime lead.
Howard left it to Ethan Milam to do the dirty work. Milam ended the game with 12 tackles.
The Torches scored 18 points in the first quarter, 30 in the second, 30 in the third and six in the fourth. They found the end zone once apiece via defense and special teams while the offense went for 10 touchdowns.
Elena Cronin was named Miss Tabernacle Christian School during the homecoming festivities prior to kickoff.
