No. 4 Mortimer Jordan falls to Briarwood Christian

KIMBERLY — Fourth-ranked Mortimer Jordan struggled offensively and fell 23-14 at home to Briarwood Christian on Friday night.

Briarwood Christian quarterback William Gray completed 14 of his 21 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 11 times for 63 yards. Lions receiver Luke Miskelley caught five passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

Mortimer Jordan quarterback Douglas Moore faced constant pressure and threw three interceptions. Two went to Carson Donnelly, and the other to Jonathan Hill.

Briarwood Christian (4-1) went up 6-0 midway through the first quarter when Gray found Miskelley for a fade route to the corner of the end zone. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.

Mortimer Jordan’s Spencer Brown scored on a 4-yard run and plunged forward for the 2-point conversion to give the Blue Devils (4-2) an 8-6 lead in the third quarter. Brown rushed 25 times for 113 yards and a touchdown for Mortimer Jordan.

Freshman Noah Nall booted a 32-yard field goal that turned out to be the game-winner just 11 seconds into the fourth quarter. Two minutes later, Gray hit Miskelley on a 45-yarder to take a 16-8 lead. John Tran-Reno added a 12-yard scoring run with just 5:05 left to give the Lions a 23-8 advantage.

Moore connected with Noah Cardwell for an 82-yard touchdown on fourth-and-long for the Blue Devils. Briarwood then ran out the clock.

Moore finished 11-of-24 for 156 yards and one touchdown. He also threw three interceptions.
