KIMBERLY— A physical Mortimer Jordan offense took its toll on Friday night in a key Class 5A, Region 6 win over Corner. First-year quarterback Douglas Moore made the throws and senior wideout Trey Peters made the grabs, but it was a devastating rushing attack from Spencer Brown that made the 48-27 difference.
Brown, a UAB verbal, ran for 183 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries for the fourth-ranked Blue Devils. He also powered his way to four 2-point conversions in the league win.
His first two touchdowns came in the second quarter from one and five yards out to aid Mortimer Jordan’s 32-7 halftime lead.
Brown’s final score of the night broke the Yellow Jackets’ comeback efforts late in the fourth quarter. The senior bounced off left tackle and went 49 yards to the end zone for a 48-27 advantage with little time remaining.
“I just wanted to put the game away so we could get the win,” said Brown of his final trip to the end zone. “I just do the best I can for my team. A running back is nothing without his O-line and they blocked good for me.”
