Luke Bailey passed for 423 yards, ran for 66 more and had a hand in five touchdowns to lead Huntingdon past Louisiana College 52-49 in a season-opening shootout Saturday on the road.

For his hot start, the Fairview graduate was named USA South Football Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Bailey threw for three scores and recorded two others on the ground Saturday to leave his latest marks on the Division III program. The quarterback, who played his last first game for the 24th-ranked Hawks, increased his career touchdown total to 66, three more than the team’s previous best. His 54 career passing TDs are tied for tops in Huntingdon history.

“I’m proud of Luke and the way he played today and has played over the years,” head coach Mike Turk said in a press release. “He’s been a consistent player for us and he’s been able to spread the ball around and help make some good things happen.”
