Scott Phillips, the founder of Outdoor Ability Foundation, speaks to the Gardendale Rotary Club on Wednesday.

Scott Phillips, president of a local nonprofit, spoke to the Gardendale Rotary Club on Wednesday afternoon in the city’s civic center.

During his 30-minute talk, Phillips announced an event—Guns and Gear Banquet— that the Outdoor Ability Foundation will be presenting on Sept. 17 at the Gardendale Civic Center. It costs $20 to attend the event, which is scheduled to run from 6 to 8 p.m.

The night will consist of dinner, an auction that will offer a plethora of outdoor equipment, and much more.

“We want people to come out and have a good time,” said Phillips of the upcoming banquet. “We’re going to have about 20 guns lined up, hunting gear, fishing trips, cabin rentals, we’ve got a little bit of everything.”

Phillips launched the Outdoor Ability Foundation (OAF) over two years ago after his son, Grayson, who is diagnosed with Spina Bifida, expressed an interest in the outdoors. The two have become avid sportsmen thanks in part to the adaptive equipment Grayson, 17, has acquired through tireless effort from his dad.

The mobility wheelchairs that Phillips has presented to two young sportsmen since opening the Outdoor Ability Foundation come at a retail price north of $10,000. It takes countless hours of research and fundraising for Phillips to provide customers with such wheelchairs, but he is hopeful that OAF will provide an adaptive wheelchair at the September banquet.

Tickets to the banquet can be purchased at outdoorabilityfoundation.com.
