An Indiana elementary school teacher who apparently vanished from her home has been found alive and taken to a hospital in serious condition, law enforcement officials said.
Krista Perdue, 42, disappeared from her home in Tippecanoe County, about 60 miles northwest of Indianapolis, sometime Monday morning.
She was found Tuesday evening at the edge of a retention pond near her home, authorities told the Indianapolis Star. A drone was use to assist in the search for Perdue, who was reported as being dehydrated and disoriented when she was found.
Perdue, who teaches second grade at a nearby elementary school, apparently endured temperatures approaching 95 degrees, as well as thunderstorms and downpours, during her ordeal, which likely contributed to her condition, officials said.
Her husband of 16 years, Samuel Perdue, told the Star on Monday that the couple had recently returned from a vacation and that his wife had been sick on Sunday. Because of that, she slept in a separate room Sunday night. When Samuel Perdue went to check on her, she was gone, having left her car keys, cell phone and other personal items at the house.
Krista Perdue had no known medical issues, and investigators don’t suspect foul play in the incident. Authorities hoped to speak with Perdue later Wednesday as she remained hospitalized.
