LOCAL SWIMMING: CST accepts ‘Principal’s Challenge,’ cruises past 3 foes

A sopping wet pair of principals — East Elementary’s David Wiggins, left, and West Elementary’s Jay Page — flash big smiles after being tossed in the pool following Tuesday’s Cullman Challenge.

The Cullman Swim Team was definitely up for the annual “Principal’s Challenge” Tuesday at the Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center.

After easily dispatching Jasper, Sheffield and Florence in the Cullman Challenge, CST members were given the golden opportunity to push their principal — either East Elementary’s David Wiggins or West Elementary’s Jay Page — into the outdoor pool.

Luke Johnson and Jaedyn Martin contributed to the cause with three individual victories apiece. Johnson was first in the boys 100-yard individual medley, 50-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle, while Martin was triumphant in the girls 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle.

Johnson also played a part in wins in the 200-yard medley and freestyle relays.

Johnson and Martin both swim in the 9- to 10-year-old age group.
