Gardendale School System will not become a reality in 2016-2017, objections filed in the case

Gardendale Schools will not be allowed to break away and form their own system for the 2016-2017 school year after the involved parties in the lawsuit were unable to reach an agreement in the case.
In filings before the June 15 deadline, The U.S. Department of Justice and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund objected to the creation of the proposed Gardendale School System.
According to filings, the parties involved met in Birmingham on May 23 but were unable to reach an agreement on the proposed school system.
This means that plaintiffs have until Aug. 26 to file a written objection in accordance with the court’s scheduling order, making it impossible for the system to begin operations this school year.
