Old Mortimer Jordan football stadium coming down

The old stadium is coming down, but his name will remain.

Jimmie Trotter, the former longtime principal of Mortimer Jordan High School, was the name behind the Blue Devils’ former football stadium on Old Highway 31 in Morris. Those grounds have not seen the sting of a Friday-night quarterback sack in nearly six years, as the school moved its athletic and academic facilities to Kimberly in the fall of 2011.

The playing surface, long since prepped for an area skirmish, will soon serve as the park in Trotter Parc — a garden home subdivision, housing 19 residence across from the William Burkett Center for Multi-Handicapped Children.

Trotter Parc is, of course, named after Jimmie, who told stories of the stadium’s younger days on Tuesday afternoon.

According to local relator Cindy Mars, the home grandstands will be transported to Hayden High School within the next 30 days. She expects construction to begin on the subdivision in the next 60 days. David Null with Riverwood Construction is spearheading the project.

The old stadium’s scoreboard will now go to Mortimer Jordan’s current football practice field in Kimberly. The old goalposts have been sold for $1,000 and will go the the youth football fields. Those earnings have been given to the high school’s football program.
