The Fultondale City Council on Monday approved two resolutions to authorize Mayor Jim Lowery to enter into a contract with South and Associates for the engineering services of a traffic light at the intersection of Lowery Parkway and Bolton Lane and to allow Lowery to enter into any necessary contracts to complete the installation of the lights.

The light will be installed at the bottom of the hill where traffic from Chili’s, Chick-Fil-A, Arby’s and McDonald’s all exit onto Lowery Parkway.

The intersection has been the site of several accidents and numerous near misses, according to authorities and the restaurant owners have been asking for a light or some other intervention to help with the traffic leaving their businesses.

The council also heard from Council Member Darrell Hubbard about the opening of Wintzell’s Oyster House on May 22.

Tickets for the event must be purchased in advance and will benefit the Fultondale Arts Council.

Tickets are available at fultondaleartscouncil.org and are $40 each or $75 per couple.

The ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m. on May 23 and the restaurant will be open to the public following that.

Hubbard also said the restaurant is still looking to hire additional help. Applications are available online or at city hall.

The American Legion is selling Boston butts to help raise funds for the traveling Vietnam Wall. The pre-order price is $30 through May 19, then will be $35 on a first-come, first-serve basis.
