- Ronnie Dixon spoke to the press following his appointment to the Jefferson County Board of Education on Tuesday.
The Jefferson County Board of Education agreed to appoint Ronnie Dixon to fill board seat 4, which was left vacant by the death of Dean Taylor last month. The meeting was called for the express purpose of filling the seat.
The board failed to agree on a candidate to fill its empty board seat during the regular meeting last week and the first vote Tuesday.
Following the urging of Superintendent Craig Pouncey, the board revoted and agreed 3-1 to place Dixon in the vacant seat.
Despite casting the lone dissenting vote on Dixon’s appointment, Board President Jacqueline Smith welcomed Dixon to the board.
“I am glad the board has set this matter to rest,” Smith said.
Dixon said, after the meeting, that he was excited to serve on the board. Dixon attempted to gain a seat on the board during the primary elections but lost in a runoff to Donna Pike, who is unopposed in the general election this fall.
Dixon will serve the remainder of Taylor’s term, which will end in 2020.
