Gardendale Police today announced the arrest of Erika Machelle Davis, of Center Point, an employee of Magnolia Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Gardendale on a charge that she stole and trafficked the identities of patients at the facility.
The single count of trafficking stolen identities relates to eight alleged victims at the care facility. Police said recovered evidence of hundreds of other stolen identities, as well as notebooks that contained personal information for people all over the United States. Police said the other victims vary in age.
“I have children that were 16-years-old that now have their credit ruined because they had their identities stolen, and they were made to be older than they were,” Detective Jimmy Unangst said. “Now they have all these credit cards out there floating and outstanding debt.”
Police department officials said Davis had been employed at Magnolia Ridge less than a year at the time of her arrest on Wednesday. Gardendale Police said the facility had no knowledge of the alleged illegal activities and cooperated entirely with the investigation.
Davis will be transported to the Jefferson County Jail and held on $50,000 bond.
