Cody "Big Country" Cole

Cody “Big Country” Cole, 19, has passed away following a head-on collision sustained on April 15 on Carson Road in Fultondale.

The 2015 graduate of Pinson Valley High School fought for his life at UAB Hospital for over a week before the sad news broke. “Prayers for Big Country” — a Facebook page created to spread awareness of Cole’s accident — posted the following on Tuesday morning: “It is with a broken heart that I am writing this, Dakota Michael Cole is now in the hands of our Father on high. Please continue to pray for this family. Please know Cody fought as hard as he could, until the last moment. BIG COUNTRY STRONG we are, we are so blessed to have known and loved such an amazing young man.”

That Facebook page has amassed over 7,700 likes.

Cole was riding alongside his uncle, Jamie Davlin, when an alleged drunk driver drifted into their lane.

“When we topped the hill and came down, a car was in my lane with no head lights,” said Davlin to Fox 6 WBRC last week. “We collided head-on.”

Davlin, who was driving that night, sustained multiple injuries, including a broken nose and dislocated hip.

According to the “Prayers for Big Country” page, a memorial service is currently being planned, but no details have been released.
