Becoming a pro: McCleney drafted into NPF

TUSCALOOSA — Haylie McCleney has taken the next step in her boundless softball career.
The Alabama center fielder and former three-time state champion at Mortimer Jordan High School was selected 13th overall in last week’s National Pro Fastpitch Draft. McCleney, who holds multiple Alabama High School Athletic Association records, was taken by the USSSA Pride, a team based out of Kissimmee, Fla.

She is the second former Blue Devil to be drafted by an NPF team. Morgan Estell was drafted by the Akron Racers last year out of Auburn, but chose not to sign with the organization.
McCleney is a three-time All-American for the Crimson Tide, and holds the program’s career batting average (.450) and on-base percentage (.568) records. According to the Crimson White, she leads this year’s team in slugging percentage (.704), on-base percentage (.602) and batting average (.459).
