There was no foul play related to the bodies of two men found this week in the parking lot of the Gardendale Wal-mart, according to Lt. Scott Banks of the Gardendale Police Department.
Banks said the circumstances that led to police finding a body on Sunday and another on Tuesday afternoon were unusual but not connected or suspicious.
The first person, a 51-year-old male from Wisconsin, was located by police after his company failed to get in touch with him over the weekend and tracked the company vehicle he was driving. The company then contacted Gardendale Police and asked them to check the vehicle.
Banks said the driver appeared to be asleep but had passed away. He said there did not appear to be any foul play or suspicious circumstances and video surveillance showed the driver pull into the lot and no one else approached or departed the vehicle. Banks said he couldn’t give an exact cause of death without the coroner’s report, but it appeared to be natural causes.
The second person, a 23-year-old male, was found on Tuesday afternoon. Banks said the video surveillance shows the man pull into the parking lot on Monday. He was in phone contact with his family after he entered the parking lot, but Banks said he never left his vehicle and no one approached the vehicle.
On Tuesday, the family became concerned when they couldn’t contact him and tracked his phone. Banks said there did not appear to be any foul play but would not comment on a specific cause of death.
