After receiving that call, officers followed up at the local businesses, obtained descriptions of the suspects and detained them near the Magnolia City Place shopping center.

Police said in the Facebook post that they recovered 38 stolen or cloned credit cards, along with other merchandise, gift cards and more than 700 packs of cigarettes.

According to police, the bank determined the card information was taken by a skimmer device at a gas station in Montgomery.

The two men, Alexis Perez Gainza, 44, of Hialeah, Florida, and Eduardo Torres Gonzalez, 46, of Miramar, Florida, are being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail on charges of trafficking stolen identities, according to Gardendale police.

Gardendale Police also posted the following warning: “Citizens should always be alert for the presence of skimmer devices. These devices can scan and store credit card data from the magnetic stripe. Skimmers on a gas pump can be easily missed or hidden very well. Once the card is run through the skimmer, the data is recorded and the information will be sold through a contact or on the Internet and at that point counterfeit cards are made. The criminals try to purchase as much as they can before the cards are deactivated. As a precaution, always check for some obvious signs of tampering when using your card.”
