Fairview's Jada Golden hits the first of four homers for the Aggies on Friday.

FAIRVIEW — The only worry coach Brian Simmons had during Friday’s county clash against Holly Pond was whether or not his Fairview squad had enough softballs to complete the game.

The Lady Aggies sizzled from start to finish, drilling four home runs and amassing 18 total hits en route to a 17-2 victory over the Broncos following a four-inning slugfest.

Jada Golden got the party started with a first-inning solo shot before Carli Ashley pummeled a two-run bomb of her own just three batters later to stake the Purple and Gold to a quick 3-0 lead.

Jordan Moore (three-run) and Kaylynn Holcomb (solo) tasered moonshots during the second frame to quickly put Holly Pond to bed early and all but seal the deal on their home field.

“It was a very good day,” Simmons said. “We’ve hit the ball well at times against some good competition, but if we could hit the ball really well one through seven like we did today, we’d be OK. I thought we had some great at-bats.”

Moore (five RBIs), Golden (two RBIs) and Holcomb (two RBIs) each recorded three knocks, while Ashley (two RBIs), Ally Hogeland (two RBIs) and Peyton Golden slugged two base knocks apiece for the Aggies (9-7).

Jada Golden, who also smoked an RBI double in the fourth inning, said Fairview’s offensive outburst couldn’t have come at a better time.

“We just came off a tough loss to Russellville,” she said. “We wanted to come out confident and hit the ball hard today. It was pretty solid. That’s my first home run since last year, so I guess I’m a power hitter now. If we hit like this, we’ll get a really good team before too long.”

Kayla Aleman tacked on a two-run single during the fourth frame, while Katie Glover ended the matchup with an RBI double in the fifth.

Both Aggies, along with Katie Ball, finished the day with one hit.

The Broncos were paced by Maddie Folds, who had two singles. Lexi White blooped a two-run single as well.

Katie Burnham, Taylor Oslin and Riley Hooper rounded out the Green and White’s hit column with one apiece in the loss.

Prior to the contest, Fairview celebrated the conclusion of Down Syndrome Awareness Week at the middle school by asking ardent fan Joseph Kanaday to toss out the ceremonial first pitch. Each member of the Lady Aggies then signed the ball and delivered it to Kanaday, who held on to the keepsake for the entirety of the game.

“He’s been fantastic to us,” Simmons said. “It was special for the girls. They were tickled to death about the idea. Just a great opportunity for a sports lover. That really capped off the week well.”
