The Fultondale City Council heard from a resident of Black Creek Subdivision at its meeting Monday night. The resident asked the council to place traffic lights at the intersection of Whaley Road and Highway 31 as well as the intersection of Northport and Carson Roads. She said residents in that community are often trapped in their neighborhood by the large traffic volume, calling the situation “very dangerous” and “a disaster waiting to happen.”
Mayor Jim Lowery said the approval for those lights would have to come from the state department of transportation. He said the council would consider a resolution to ask the state to approve the lights and see what they said.
In other business, the council:
•passed a resolution to dedicate the annual Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the American legion Post 255, in memory of Don Vaughn and rename the hunt the Don Vaughn Memorial Egg Hunt. This year the hunt is Saturday, March 26, at Black Creek Park. The hunt begins at 10 a.m. and there is $1,000 in prize money available.
•approved an application for alcohol sales for the new owner at Porky’s Pride’s.
•adopted the Jefferson County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.
•approved a resolution allowing the mayor to negotiate and enter into a contract with Volkert, Inc. for professional services relating to the management of the Storm Water Management Program for the city in 2016.
