Baseball: Gardendale sweeps weekend, Mortimer Jordan drops two
Gardendale bounced back for a pair of home wins on Saturday. The Rockets started the day with an 11-1 win over Oak Grove before downing Oak Mountain, 3-0, that evening.
Drew Love led Gardendale in the weekend opener with five runs batted in. He and the Rockets took command early as they shot out to an 8-0 lead after two innings.
Junior Manning Early recorded four hits and scored four runs on the day. He and the Rockets will be back in action on Tuesday when they visit Corner for a doubleheader.
Mortimer Jordan lost to both McAdory and Clay-Chalkville on Saturday. The Blue Devils (3-3) fell to McAdory by a count of 5-1 and followed that up with a 5-4 loss to the Cougars.
Mortimer Jordan will look to bounce back with a doubleheader on Thursday at Locust Fork.
Softball: Rockets improve to 5-0
Gardendale (5-0) invited Class 4A Oak Grove to town for a doubleheader on Saturday, and ended the series with a clean sweep to stay unbeaten on the season. The Rockets took Game 1 by an 8-4 final and shutout the visitors 5-0 in Game 2.
Madison Bulloch (4-0) started both games in the circle, logging eight innings of work and allowing only one earned run.
Gardendale is scheduled to visit Mortimer Jordan on Tuesday night.
