Good Hope council discuss keeping pay scale level

GOOD HOPE — City council members discussed keeping elected officials pay and council assignments the same ahead of the upcoming municipal election during its meeting this week.
Pay for city council members is currently $500 a month and $12,000 annually for mayor. City Clerk Christie Chamblee said Good Hope hasn’t increased its salary for officials since 2012.
The five council district assignments are as follows: Place 1 is finances (Johnny Harris), Place 2 is streets (Maxie Jones), Place 3 is sewer system (Susan Eller), Place 4 is community events (Taft Dillashaw) and Place 5 is parks (Matthew Glover).
The municipal election is set for August 23, with candidate qualifying from July 5-19, Chamblee said.
“You wouldn’t believe the number of people already calling asking about it,” she said.
City council members and mayor elected will assume office November 7.
In related business, the city council approved a resolution related to the use of electronic voting machines for the election and discussed qualifications fees.

* Approved January financial report.
