Girls basketball: Mortimer Jordan rips Fultondale, Gardendale edges Shades Valley

Mortimer Jordan jumped out to a big lead early and was never threatened, as they defeated Fultondale 58-34 in girls basketball action Thursday night.

The Blue Devils ran out to a 29-8 lead by halftime and coasted from there, with every Jordan player scoring at least two points.

Bess Crane led the Devils (10-7) with 12 points, all scored on four 3-pointers in the first half. Kaylan Hines and Nicole Goldsmith added eight points each.

Yari Sigler led all scorers with 13 points for the Wildcats (1-7), and Tkiya Tolen added nine on three treys.

Gardendale 58, Shades Valley 54: Joy Sadler scored 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, and Alissa Cornelius also scored 21 as the Rockets notched an important area win Tuesday.

Down by four after three periods, Gardendale (14-7, 1-1 area) doubled up the Mounties in the final quarter to get the victory.

Camryn London led Shades Valley (7-5, 1-1 area) with 20 points, and Nadia Cathey contributed 17.
