Obituary: Thelma Mayfield Woodard

Thelma Mayfield Woodard, 90 years young, went to be with her Heavenly Father on the evening of January 6, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was a wonderful homemaker, devoted wife and caring Mother. Thelma was a precious Christian woman and a faithful member of North Gardendale Church of Christ where she devoted much time visiting shut-ins and helping with activities in the church. She was active in the Modern Woodsmen which included many events around the community helping others and was a contributor to numerous charities.
Thelma was preceded in death by her longtime husband, James C. (Jake) Woodard, parents, Will and Martha Mayfield of Hanceville and sister, Gracie Dee Sitton of Hayden.
Survivors include daughters, Marilyn Cruce of Hanceville, and Pamela (Sidney) Carroll of Trussville, grandchildren Lilley Carroll, James (Denice) Blake of Macon, Ga., great grandchildren, Alex Blake of Elba and Rebecca (Garret) Potete of New Brockton, L.J. Blake and Terri Marie Blake of Macon, Ga. and great great granddaughter, Briana Michelle Potete; sisters Nell Gilbert of Adamsville and Mabra Hulsey of Cullman as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her faithful and loved four-legged companion, Roxie, which watched over her diligently.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with services the following day in the chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel directing. We would like to give special recognition to Hospice Services of Alabama, especially Sharon and Stephanie for taking such good care of Mom.
