Basketball: Corner falls to Walker in tourney; Gardendale boys, girls sweep Carver

Walker finished off the competition in the Corner Christmas Tournament last week, winning three straight games to take the title thanks to a 65-49 victory in the finals Saturday over the hosts.
Down by 15 at halftime, the Yellow Jackets rallied in the third period to cut the deficit to two points, but the Vikings went on a 25-11 run in the fourth quarter.
Center Sam Knowlton led Corner (9-6) with 19 points. Ethan Walker scored 14 and Jarius Williams added 13 for the Vikings.
In the consolation finals, Mortimer Jordan scored more points in the fourth period alone as Sipsey Valley did in the entire game, as the 10th-ranked Blue Devils rolled to a 46-19 victory.
Sawyer Swindle and Colby Moon led Jordan (7-4) with 11 points each.
Hadrian McNeil led the Bears (1-8) with seven points.
In tournament semifinal play:
Corner 64, Locust Fork 48: Drennen Hutchins led the Jackets with 20 points, including 7-of-7 at the foul line, in Friday’s game.
Knowlton scored 17 points and Skylar Lara added 11 for Corner.
Bay Etheredge led the Hornets (7-4) with 14 points, including four 3-point shots.
Mortimer Jordan 60, Tarrant 29: In a consolation bracket semifinal, Patrick Burkett knocked down three treys on his way to a 16-point night for the Devils.
Swindle added 13 and Kaleb Archer scored nine for Jordan. DeVonte Franklin and Emery Bryant scored nine each for the Wildcats (2-11).
REGULAR SEASON
BOYS — Gardendale 58, Carver 37: The Rockets ran out to a 24-point lead by halftime and never looked back Friday night.
Harper Haygood led Gardendale (8-3) with 11 points. Jacob Ford paced the Rams (2-12) with 16.
GIRLS — Gardendale 62, Carver 61: Alissa Cornelius scored 26 points, while Joy Sadler had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Rockets (7-3) on Friday night.
Olivia Staples, Kanishia Rivers and Journey Jones each scored 14 points for the Rams (10-5).
