If you’re headed south into Birmingham on Friday night, you might want to figure in some extra travel time.

The Alabama Department of Transportation is planning rolling roadblocks for Interstate 65 southbound lanes, starting Friday night at 7 and continuing until 5 a.m. Saturday.

The roadblocks will begin two miles north of the Walker Chapel Road exit in Fultondale, and will continue to a point one mile south of the U.S. 31 exit in the south part of the city.

The roadblocks are needed so that workers can transfer traffic onto the final layer of asphalt through the Interstate 22 interchange construction zone.
