The developer of the Fieldstown Crossing subdivision is adding a new phase to the project.

Joel Mulkin of Highpoint Development received approval to have the new phase annexed into the city during Monday’s regular session of the Gardendale City Council.

The new phase is located at 1391 Fieldstown Road, near the intersection with Shady Grove Road and just across the street from the first two phases of Fieldstown Crossing.

Mulkin told the council that the new addition will include 42 lots, with houses similar to those found in the initial phases. The Fieldstown Crossing website says that homes will be priced starting “in the low to mid $200[,000]’s.”

The annexation was approved unanimously.

The council also voted to appoint Steve Morgan and Wendell Duke to positions on the Downtown Redevelopment Authority. Morgan will fill a term that expires in June 2020, while Duke’s term will end in June 2018.

In a similar move, the council reappointed Danny Goolsby to the Parks and Recreation Board, with a term expiring in November 2019.

Matthew Taylor Roberts was hired as a firefighter, transferring from a similar post in the Bessemer Fire Department, and Lisa Hawkins was hired as a part-time clerk at the city library.

The council also authorized Mayor Stan Hogeland to negotiate contracts for landscaping at the new City Hall, and for janitorial services at the Gardendale Police Department.

Two donations were also presented to the council: a check for $500 for the Raymond Doss Miracle League Playground from the Birmingham Area Municipal Administrators (of which Public Works Director Jeff Holliyan is president), and a check for $600 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which came from the Gardendale Professional Firefighters Association.
