The Republican nominee for president will be chosen by Republican Primary voters. I believe it is safe to say that most of us favor securing our southern border as soon as possible. Further, one candidate has mentioned deporting some 11-20 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. (of all nationalities, including border crossers and those who have overstayed their visas). This has been met with an uproar, and quite a few who say it would be too difficult to find them, too costly to deport them and too inhumane to separate families. This candidate responds by saying it is all about using common sense.
Let’s implement the following policies nationwide:
Deny routine medical care to anyone without legal papers (life threatening emergency care would continue);
Deny any and all welfare benefits to anyone without legal papers;
Deny an education to any child whose parents cannot produce legal papers;
Fine any employer found employing illegal aliens;
Illegal immigrants care about their families. They need to work or get welfare to feed them, they need medical care and they want to send their kids to school. When they cannot do that, they will leave the country and no one will have to hunt them down or round them up or break them up.
Americans believe in the rule of law. It’s time we got back to enforcing it.
It sounds just like, um — common sense!
