Local Christmas parades start marching Thursday night

Published 12:51 pm Thursday, December 3, 2015

With Thanksgiving now out of the way (except for a few leftovers in the refrigerator), it’s time to start celebrating Christmas — and several area towns will do just that with their annual parades.

In addition to the lineup of parades that have taken place over the years, there’s a new entry in 2015. Hayden will have its very first Christmas parade, thanks to the efforts of the West Blount Fire District.

Here’s a list of where the floats are rolling and the bands are marching this year:

  • Gardendale: This year’s parade is on Thursday night, beginning at 6 p.m. The route begins and ends at Gardendale High School, and follows along Grubbs Avenue and Main Street, crossing through the parking lot of Village Green Shopping Square (just steps from The North Jefferson News office).
  • Fultondale: The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony for the city was postponed until Dec. 8 because of weather. The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. at Black Creek Park. There will be hot chocolate, cookies, crafts and free pictures with Santa.
  • Hayden: The inaugural parade will be held Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. The route runs along Alabama Highway 160 from Bent Tree to Hayden United Methodist Church.
  • Pinson: The annual parade is this Saturday at 10 a.m., starting at Pinson Valley High School and running southward down Alabama 75, turning onto Pinson Blvd. and ending at Triangle Park across from Rock School Center.
  • Kimberly and Morris: The neighboring towns will again team up for their annual parade, which will be on Saturday, Dec. 12 starting at 4:30 p.m. There’s no sign-up for being a participant in the parade — just show up at Morris Walking Park before 4 p.m. The route runs from there northward on Stouts Road, and ends in Kimberly where a tree-lighting ceremony will be held. Morris will also hold a tree lighting at the park in front of town hall on Dec. 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
  • Trafford: The annual parade is also on Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. and runs through the center of the town.
  • Warrior: The city will host a tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. with Santa and a cast of superheroes on hand. The city’s annual Christmas parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 17 at the ball park. The parade this year will be Mayberry themed, including a Barney Fife impersonator as the grand marshall.
