St. Bernard’s boys quickly rebounded from their first loss of the season Monday with a resounding win the following night.
The Saints finished their two-day stay at Shades Mountain Christian for the John Allen Memorial Tournament on a high note with a 58-31 victory over Isabella. Evan Aldridge posted 22 points, and Gavin Harris added 17 for St. Bernard, which was coming off a 59-25 defeat to Altamont.
Dean Smith and Christian Peterson contributed eight points apiece in the win.
Altamont’s James Murray nearly outscored the Saints on his own with 23 points in the opener. At 6-7, Srivatsan Ponnazhagan did most of his damage from outside during a 17-point showing.
Smith had St. Bernard’s high with nine points. Peterson pitched in six.
“They’re the real deal,” Saints coach Greg Boatright said of Class 2A Altamont. “They’re just solid, all the way through.”
Aside from Monday’s setback, the same has been true for 1A St. Bernard, which is 5-1 so far on the young season.
“It’s a good start for us,” Boatright said. “We just need to keep working and keep improving. That’s what matters.”
The Saints will travel to Athens Bible next Tuesday.
