It seemed like neither team could get any momentum going for most of the game, but Gardendale finally pulled away when it counted.

They held host Vestavia Hills to just three points in the last six minutes, as the Rockets walked away with a 44-37 win in the semifinals of the 37th Annual Sneaky Pete’s Rebel Classic Tournament on Tuesday.

The two teams were never more than four points ahead of each other until the final period, when Gardendale took the lead on what amounted to a five-point play with about six minutes left. The Rebels, who rarely play an uptempo game, went cold from the floor and couldn’t catch up.

Jay Brooks led the undefeated Rockets with 12 points. Jacob Hallmark added eight with a pair of 3-point shots, including one on the back end of the five-point play.

Will McCoy led Vestavia Hills with 10 points.

Gardendale (4-0) will play Homewood in the tournament championship game Friday at 8 p.m.

Mortimer Jordan 43, Good Hope 42 (OT): The Blue Devils pulled out the win at the free throw line in the extra four minutes of their consolation bracket semifinal game in the Hanceville Thanksgiving Tournament.

Down by three at halftime, Jordan came back to tie the game at the end of the third quarter, and the two sides stayed even through the fourth.

Sawyer Swindle led the Devils with 17 points, including three 3-point goals; he was 2-of-4 at the foul line in overtime. Justin Anderson scored nine points, three of them in the extra period.

Jordan will play in the consolation bracket final on Friday.

Hanceville 46, Corner 39: In a winner’s bracket semifinal at Hanceville, Sam Knowlton led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points, and Drennen Hutchins added 12. But they couldn’t catch the Bulldogs’ Xavier Malcom, who was 8-of-8 at the free throw line and scored 22 points overall.

Corner will face Dora in the third-place game Friday.
