Gardendale got its girls basketball season off to a good start, as the Rockets easily handled Chelsea 71-35 in their season opener.

Alissa Cornelius led all scorers with 17 points, and Joy Sadler added 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals for Gardendale.

Michaella Edwards paced the Hornets (1-3) with 15 points.

The Rockets travel to Pinson Valley on Tuesday night.
