For the sixth straight season, Pinson Valley is headed for the playoffs.
The Indians punched their ticket to the post-season with a convincing 34-0 shutout at Center Point on Friday night.
Pinson scored touchdowns against the Eagles on offense, defense and special teams. The Tribe opened with a 42-yard punt return by Jay Woods for a score, a bit more than two minutes into the game.
Quarterback Jackie Matthews followed that up near the end of the period with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Errius Collins on fourth down and goal. (The point-after was no good.)
Indians quarterback Ty Woods had a big night, picking off two Center Point passes for interceptions — the first one for a pick-six for 16 yards midway through the second quarter. Collins scored the 2-point conversion.
Place kicker Saul Rios put Pinson up 24-0 with a 30-yard field goal just before halftime.
Matthews scored in the third period on a 2-yard run of his own.
Rios capped off the scoring with another field goal, this one from 37 yards out late in the game.
Rasheed Wilson also stopped an Eagle drive with an interception in the second half, and Deevon Scarborough recovered a Center Point fumble late in the first half.
Center Point falls to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in Class 6A Region 6.
Pinson Valley (6-2, 3-2 region) tries to improve their playoff seeding when they host Shades Valley on Oct. 23. The Mounties fell to Huffman 31-28 on Friday.
