Turnovers — two interceptions and one fumble — sealed the Cats’ demise.

Hayden took the opening kickoff and drove to the Bears ‘12 before missing on a 29-yard field goal attempt.

Lincoln got on the scoreboard two possessions later when Nicholas Pope hit a 39-yard field goal on the first play of the second quarter.

Late in the first half, the Cats were punting from deep in their own territory, when punter Chris Ward was tackled at the 2-yard line. On the next play, Lejephryes Carmichael scored to give the Bears a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Hayden drove 66 yards for the score on the opening drive after intermission. Colton Shirley broke loose for 39 yards to cap the drive, and Ward’s kick cut the Lincoln lead to 10-7 with 8:15 left in the third quarter.

Ward missed on a 33-yard field goal early in the final period, but Lincoln also missed on a 36-yard attempt with just over four minutes to play. Hayden then drove 80 yards and scored on a 24-yard run by Leonard Johnson. Ward’s point after gave the Cats their first lead of the night 14-10 with 3:10 remaining.

The Golden Bears then took the ensuing kickoff and drove 69 yards for the score. The key play came on a third-and-long pass that was thrown out of bounds by quarterback Zavian Caldwell, but a holding penalty on the Wildcats gave Lincoln new life with a first down.

Devonte Whiteside caught a 16-yard pass from Caldwell. Pope’s point put Lincoln up 17-14 with only 1:35 to go.

Hayden then drove the length of the field, but an interception killed the drive at the 7-yard line.

The Cats gained 328 yards for the game, most of it on the ground.

For the Raiders, Caldwell was 8-of-19 passing for 77 yards.

Johnson led the Wildcat rushing game with 112 yards on 17 carries. Blake Adams add 92 yards on 19 carries, and Josh Duncan had 54 yards on four attempts.

Jeremy Standfield paced the Hayden defense with 10 tackles (one for loss) and one sack. Garrett Torbert add seven tackles and two sacks, and Colton Shirley had seven tackles, one for loss.

Hayden (4-2, 2-2 region) hosts Springville next week.
