FORT WORTH, Texas — Thanks likely to its secluded location at the end of a dead-end street, the horse barn owned by Eugene Bostick, 80, and his brother has become a dog barn.
“People sometimes come by and dump dogs out here, leaving them to starve,” Bostick told The Dodo. “So, we started feeding them, letting them in (the barn), taking them to the vet to get them spayed and neutered. We made a place for them to live.”
And then they made it a place for them to have fun.
A few times a week, Bostick loads his foster Fidos onto a homemade tractor-powered choo-choo and parades the pooches through parks, forests —wherever he thinks will best distract them from the daily reality of being a dumped dog.
“One day I was out and I seen this guy with a tractor who attached these carts to pull rocks. I thought, ‘Dang, that would do for a dog train,’” Bostick said. “I’m a pretty good welder, so I took these plastic barrels with holes cut in them, and put wheels under them and tied them together.”
The rest is viral-video history.
Bostic said he’s not sure how much longer the rover rover will be operation, though.
“I’m getting up in age. I’m 80 now, so I suppose it can’t last too much longer, but I’ll keep it going as long as I can,” Bostick said. “The dogs have a great time. They just really enjoy it.”
