Three prisoners were killed Saturday during a fight inside a medium security housing pod of Cimarron Correctional Facility in Cushing, Oklahoma. A fourth inmate who was injured in the fight later died at a nearby hospital.
According to KFOR, it took prison officials 40 minutes to end the brawl which broke out around 4 p.m. As of Sunday morning, the 1,720 bed facility remained on lockdown.
The cause of the fight is still under investigation. No prison employees were injured according to officials, however the lone guard inside the pod when the fight broke out is receiving counseling.
It’s the second major “inmate disturbance” at the Cimarron Correctional Facility, which is owned and operated by Corrections Corporation of America, in three months. In June, 11 men were hospitalized after a large-scale fight involving at least 200 inmates.
Last month, two prisoners were charged with assaulting two prison guards in separate incidents.
