The Cold Springs Eagles gained 635 yards and scored seven first-half touchdowns Friday night en route to a 55-0 win at Southeastern.
Cold Springs (2-1, 1-0 Class 2A, Region 6) scored touchdowns on its first three offensive plays. Nic Rollo took the first snap of the game and ran 55 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles’ second possession started with Christian Crandall racing 60 yards to the end zone. The third possession resulted in another quick strike as Cayde Elliott completed a 40-yard touchdown pass to Blake Harbison.

“We talked this week and our whole message was, ‘Worry about Cold Springs,'” coach Rod Elliott said. “We really wanted to focus on only worrying about what we do and what we’ve got to do to make ourselves a better football team. I think we achieved that goal.”
Rollo and Fisher Willoughby each finished with two touchdowns, while Crandall, Elliott, Harbison and Jonathan Barfield all scored one touchdown.
Southeastern (1-2, 0-1 2A, Region 6) failed to drive across midfield during the game. The Mustangs did have one possession start in Cold Springs territory after the Eagles muffed a punt.
“Without watching the film, I think we got better tonight,” Elliott said. “Sometimes in games likes this you can get a false reading, but I thought our kids played hard tonight.”
Cold Springs returns home next week for a showdown with the undefeated and third-ranked Tanner Rattlers.

Garrett Martin rushed 11 times for 219 yards and two touchdowns, while Nathan Gilbreath ran six times for 116 yards and three touchdowns to lead the 3A No. 9 Wildcats (2-0 overall, 1-0 in 3A, Region 5). Quarterback Dalton Key added 90 yards on 12 carries as Oakman rolled up 475 yards rushing and 607 yards total offense in the game.
Martin’s 87-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter gave Oakman a 26-15 lead. Gilbreath scored on runs of 36 and 11 yards on the next two possessions, and Mister Hogue scored on a 5-yard run with 3:01 left in the third quarter
Gilbreath (40 yards), Austin Caldwell (16) and Martin (41) scored first-half touchdowns as the Wildcats built a 20-0 lead. Holly Pond got its offense going late in the second quarter as quarterback Michael Lambert connected with Dylan Morton for an 11-yard touchdown and again on the two-point conversion. A 1-yard scoring run by Caleb Jones with 54 seconds left in the half cut the deficit to 20-15.
Holly Pond (0-2 overall, 0-1 in 3A, Region 5) had success driving deep into Oakman territory in the second half, but turnovers (four fumbles and one interception) and other mistakes prevented the Broncos from converting those opportunities. Their only second-half points came on a 4-yard touchdown reception by Mathis Garrett with 8:16 left in the fourth quarter.
Lambert completed 22 of 43 pass attempts for 274 yards and two touchdowns. The Broncos struggled to gain yards on the ground, running the ball 29 times for 58 yards. Jones did most of the hard work, gaining 47 yards on 17 carries. Holly Pond makes its first road trip of the season next week when the Broncos visit Collinsville.
Tanner 63, Addison 14
The Rattlers’ offense rolled for a second straight game, outgaining the Bulldogs 482-200 in total yards in a region-opening rout.
A week after accounting for 263 yards and five touchdowns against Colbert County, Alabama commit Chadarius Townsend wasted no time putting 2A No. 3 Tanner on the board, scoring from 51 yards out less than a minute into play. The Rattlers junior quarterback extended the lead to 14-0 two minutes later when he connected with CJ Yarbrough on a 6-yard scoring pass.
Ty Mayberry tacked on scoring runs of 40 and 43 yards in the first quarter, giving the Rattlers (3-0, 1-0 2A, Region 6) a 28-0 lead and effectively putting the game out of reach.
Lee Hisbon continued the barrage early in the second, scoring from 33 yards out with 10:12 left on the clock. Tanner’s defense padded the lead before the break when Zakobe Shoulders returned a fumble 33 yards for a score to put the halftime margin at 42-0.
Jordan Lucas pushed the lead to 49-0 with a 54-yard run early in the third before Hisbon added another rushing score for the Rattlers, this one from 61 yards out.
Laquavian Summers rounded out the Tanner scoring with a 3-yard run with a minute left to play.
Hisbon led all rushers with 133 yards on five carries, while Mayberry added 91 yards on four rushes.
Tanner continues region play Friday at Cold Springs, while Addison (1-2) hosts Falkville.
Danville 49, Vinemont 3
Using a balanced attack that didn’t see a single player eclipse 100 yards, the Hawks rushed for 427 yards Friday night, cruising to the program’s first 2-0 start since 2009.
Fans of both schools turned out wearing orange for the game, a sign of support for Danville sophomore Kane Hogan. Hogan, a member of the Hawks’ football team, was diagnosed with leukemia in February.
Peyton Colburn, Jackson Locklear, Landon Tidwell, Tyson Coker and Ryan Self all had rushing touchdowns for the Hawks (2-0), with Tidwell adding a touchdown pass to Colton McCay.
Danville’s defense limited Vinemont to minus-9 yards in the final three quarters after surrendering 86 yards of offense and a field goal in the first.
Danville opens region play next week at Carbon Hill.
Vinemont (0-2) heads to Hanceville.
