ANNISTON — Quarterback Duncan Hodges threw one touchdown pass and ran for another, while Spence Brown ran for a pair of scores as ninth-ranked Mortimer Jordan opened regional play Friay with a convincing 43-19 road victory over Anniston.

Hodges connected with Walker McCleney for an 18-yard touchdown pass on the Blue Devils’ first score, just over two minutes into the game.

Brown scored the Devils’ next two touchdowns, on a 7-yard and a 2-yard run.

Bulldog quarterback Tae Miller had a hand in three touchdowns for the home team. He scored on a 68-yard breakaway on the game’s second play from scrimmage, then threw an 8-yard scoring toss to L.J. Miller in the second quarter.

A Hodges pass was intercepted by Marrio Dobbins, which Miller then converted by scoring from two yards out with 3:20 left in the first half, bringing Anniston to within three points of Jordan.

The Dogs appeared as if they had taken the lead going into intermission when they recovered a Devils fumble, and Miller threw what looked to be a 43-yard touchdown pass. That score was nullified by a holding penalty, though, and Jordan stayed up 22-19 at the break.

From that point on, it was all Devils.

The opening drive of the second half saw Kalin Stringer finish things off with a 3-yard scoring run. In the fourth quarter, Hodges scored on a 2-yard quarterback sneak, and Trey Peters finished things off on a 30-yard touchdown run with 7:29 left in the game.

Anniston was plagued by penalties — 12 flags for 99 yards — and also failed to take advantage of two Jordan turnovers in the second half.

Hodges finished with 12 completions in 21 attempts and 225 yards passing for the night, Jacob Dean caught six passes for 105 yards.

Stringer led the rushing stats with 73 yards on 13 carries.

The Devils gained 452 yards overall, compared to 314 for the Bulldogs.

Jordan (2-0, 1-0 region) hosts Moody next week.
