PREP FOOTBALL: West Point, Fairview going with joint jamboree Saturday at Cullman

Cullman's football team takes part in an instrasquad scrimmage last fall at Oliver Woodard Stadium.

The wait for Saturday football will soon be over.

Don’t get your hopes up for the college game just yet, however. With so much rain this week around the area, it’s high school football that’s set to make a rare weekend appearance.

West Point and Fairview made the latest — and hopefully last — changes to their jamboree plans on Thursday, opting to join Curry for a three-team exhibition Saturday night at Cullman High’s Oliver Woodard Stadium.

Each team will face each other for a half, starting with West Point and Curry at 6:30 p.m. Fairview and Curry will go second, followed by the Warriors and Aggies.

The original intent earlier this week was for West Point to host Curry on Thursday and Fairview to welcome J.B. Pennington at Warrior Field the following night. West Point had offered its stadium to the county-rival Aggies because the latter had nowhere to play Friday with Dafford Smith Stadium still condemned and their second “home” at Cullman High in use for the Bearcats’ opener versus Arab.

The decision was made Wednesday for West Point and Fairview to try to play their jamborees back-to-back on Friday. The plan didn’t last long, with Saturday at a site with turf being a better option than putting a saturated field through two games when one would’ve already been a stretch.
