The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl who was found unresponsive outside her home on Gurley Lane in Trafford Monday morning.

Deputies responded to the home at approximately 7 a.m., after her parents allegedly found her outside the home on a porch area, lying on a mattress.

The toddler was taken by ambulance to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, where she was pronounced dead.

The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy conducted by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
