According to store manager Joey Childress the store will be hiring both full- and part-time associates.

“Walmart is a company with many opportunities for professional growth, and we are excited about finding wonderful new associates to join us,” Childress said.

The majority of new associates will begin work this fall to help prepare the store for its grand opening.

Walmart will offer a job to any eligible U.S. veteran honorably discharged from active duty since the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment launched on Memorial Day 2013. Interested veterans may find out more at http://walmartcareerswithamission.com.

The site plan for the large-scale retail project was approved by the Cullman Planning Commission in August 2014. The development will be located behind the joint Texaco and Wendy’s restaurant on Highway 157, and run beside the vacant Backyard Burger.

A new traffic light will also be installed on Highway 157 in front of the development for access.

Once complete, the new store will mark the county’s second Wal-Mart, in conjunction with the existing location on Olive Street in south Cullman.

Along with the main Walmart store and large parking lot, the site plan also calls for four smaller retail spaces to be built beside the main development. Those spots range in size from 20,000 square feet to 40,000 square feet. The site plan also includes a handful of additional undeveloped outparcels around the project.

The total Walmart building area will be 189,543 square feet in size, with an outdoor garden center of 3,759 feet.
