Good Thursday morning to you…
Weather: Sweat shop. Hot and humid today and Friday, with highs in the middle 90s. Lows both nights in the middle 70s. A slight chance of rain on Saturday.
Plea deal. A former Pinson Valley High School teacher will not have to spend any time in jail, thanks to a plea agreement reached with prosecutors. Jennifer Perry was given a six-month suspended sentence Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of sexual contact with a student under age 19. Perry was accused of performing a sex act with a 17-year-old PVHS student in February, and was originally charged with a felony offense. She will pay a $250 fine and court costs, and will have to register as a sex offender.
Sports: And you thought college recruiting was strange. A somewhat bizarre scenario played itself out in Houston on Wednesday night, as NBA free agent DeAndre Jordan backtracked on his commitment to sign a “max deal” with the Dallas Mavericks. Jordan’s current teammates with the Los Angeles Clippers descended on his house yesterday to talk him out of the deal, bringing along coach Doc Rivers and team owner (and former Microsoft CEO) Steve Ballmer – and it worked, as Jordan announced he would stay. But just to make absolutely sure he didn’t change his mind again before the midnight free-agent deadline, Clippers stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin stayed with Jordan at his house to keep watch. Mavs owner Mark Cuban eventually gave up on Jordan, who signed a new four-year Clippers contract just after the midnight deadline.
