A Morgan County man facing charges of rape and sodomy in Cullman County was arrested near Ardmore Tuesday night after refusing to surrender to deputies.
Jackson Matthew Hall, 24, of 882 Alabama 36, Lacey’s Spring, was recently indicted by a Cullman County grand jury on one count of first-degree rape and one count of first-degree sodomy.
Hall was inside a home on Sweet Springs Road near Boyd’s Chapel Road Tuesday when a Limestone County sheriff’s deputy attempted to serve him the arrest warrant for the indictment. When Hall answered the door, the deputy saw Hall had a pistol in his hand, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Stephen Young. Hall then closed the door and told the deputy he refused to come out, Young said.
More deputies and Sheriff Mike Blakely responded to the scene, attempting to contact Hall to urge him to surrender, according to dispatch reports. Hall eventually walked out of the house and gave himself up without incident, Young said. Limestone County pressed no additional charges against Hall.
Hall was later picked up by the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and transported to Cullman County Jail. He made an initial court appearance Wednesday and is scheduled to appear again on Aug. 13, according to court records.
Hall has a lengthy criminal history in the Tennessee Valley, according to court records. In addition to the rape and sodomy charges, he is also accused of exposing himself to a Morgan County delivery woman on April 8. At the time of that incident, he was out on bond for the rape and sodomy charges, but his bond was revoked after he was arrested on the indecent exposure charge, records show.
In addition to multiple traffic violations, Hall is also currently in court in Madison County on a charge of aggravated child abuse. Details on the abuse, rape and sodomy cases were not immediately available.
