Birmingham woman killed in three-vehicle crash north of Pinson

A three-vehicle crash Tuesday night on Alabama Highway 79 north of Pinson has resulted in the death of a Birmingham woman.

An Alabama State Troopers spokesman said that Kheoum Chen, 69, was driving a Chevy Aveo southbound on Highway 79 about two miles north of Pinson when her car was hit head on by a Chevy Malibu headed northbound toward Locust Fork.

Chen was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Malibu was William Andrew Baty, 52, of Pinson. He was taken by helicopter to UAB Hospital; his condition is unknown.

The driver of the third car was Alicia Grace Liddon, 35, of Vestavia Hills. She was not injured.

The wreck took place at about 5:45 p.m., in an area just to the north of the construction area for the new Northern Beltline. State Troopers are continuing to investigate.
