Raise for some JefCoEd workers up for vote. The Jefferson County Board of Education will act during a meeting this morning on changes in its pay structure that would give certain workers pay hikes and additional supplements, primarily in an effort to keep those workers from leaving for neighboring school systems with better pay. Ironically, some of those same workers were facing layoffs a month ago, as part of a reduction in force that was originally approved by the board, but later rescinded. As always, we’ll have full coverage at njeffersonnews.com.
Nine killed in South Carolina church shooting. A manhunt is on around Charleston, S.C. after a white male opened fire on an African Methodist Episcopal church congregation Wednesday night, killing nine people and injuring several others. The gunman is described by The Washington Post as a clean-shaven white man in his early 20s, with sandy blond hair and a slight build. Among those killed is the church’s pastor, Clementa Pinckney, who is also a state senator. The historic church is a year short of its bicentennial, and is one of the oldest black churches in the United States. Here’s the full story.

Television coverage of the Open changes networks this year, as Fox will broadcast a major golf tournament for the first time. Coverage begins today and Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fox Sports 1, then switches to Fox broadcast (WBRC-6) from 7 to 10 p.m.; it’s also live-streamed at USGA.com.
