Busted drug operation. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has made six arrests, and is still looking for a seventh suspect, as they have broken up a drug-trafficking ring operating just north of Pinson. We told you last week about the arrest of Frederick Dowdell, who appears to have been the kingpin of the operation; he remains jailed on bond totaling nearly $60,000. Five others — four from Pinson and one from Birmingham — have also been arrested on an assortment of other marijuana- and cocaine-related charges, and all of them have been released on bond. Deputies are still looking for Frederick DeWayne Joseph, 32, of Pinson on two counts of distribution of heroin. Sheriff Mike Hale will be talking with reporters this morning about the case.

Sports: And still heavyweight champion of the world… WBC champion Deontay Wilder of Tuscaloosa has retained his title, after knocking out challenger Eric Molina in the ninth round of their title bout Saturday before a sold-out crowd Saturday at UAB’s Bartow Arena. Wilder, known for being a knockout specialist who only once had a fight go to a judges’ decision, knocked Molina down once in the fourth round and twice in the fifth, but the Texan battled back and actually won the eighth round. But then, Wilder tagged Molina with a right-hand punch that caught the challenger squarely on the side of the head, followed by a combination that sent Molina to the canvas. That was all that referee Jack Reiss needed to see, as he immediately stopped the bout just over a minute into the round. Wilder, still undefeated in 33 fights with all but one by knockout, will likely fight again in September before a mandatory WBC title defense against Alexander Povetkin a bit later; a unification bout against Wladimir Klitschko — holder of the other three heavyweight belts — is on the horizon for next year, as long as Wilder keeps winning.
